The results are in. The selection committee of the Santa Clarita Valley Business Journal and JCI Santa Clarita Valley 40 Under Forty awards has named the class of 2011.
West Ranch High School students received top honors the 2011 VIA STAR business competition with their program “Project Prom,” providing senior prom formal attire to disadvantaged students. The students presented their business plan and commercials to business leaders attending VIA’s monthly business luncheon held April 19.
SCV Chamber of Commerce held a mixer April 20 at the Plaza at Golden Valley Amphitheater in Canyon Country. More than 300 Chamber members gathered for this exciting outdoor networking event. Valley Industry Association held its monthly luncheon at the Valencia Country Club on March 15. Ian Lamont, Publisher, Lila Littlejohn, Executive Editor, and Jim Holt, Senior Writer, The Signal, Laurene Weste, Councilwoman, city of Santa Clarita, and Phil Friess, Los Angeles County Sanitation District answered questions and discussed discussion on the significant rate increases proposed to the Santa Clarita Valley to cover the cost of building new water filtration plants and what those increases really mean to business and residents of the SCV
The Association of Women Entrepreneurs of SCV hosted a luncheon March 17 at TPC in Valencia, treating its members to an entertaining presentation by keynote speaker Kathleen Ronald. Armed with comedic props, humorous anecdotes and a certification in neuro-linguistic programming, Ronald emphasized the link between an individual's personal belief system and engaging negative or positive thought patterns that can grow or limit one's business growing abilities.

The presentation will also include a look ahead at anticipated court rulings and legislation affecting the employment landscape in 2011.
