Outgoing president installs incoming council members, recognizes its top members with awards
The Southland Regional Association of Realtors — Santa Clarita Valley Division installed its 2012 officers at the Valencia Country Club on Friday.
Members of the Santa Clarita Realty community cited a challenging year, but pointed to the perseverance and achievements made by all as a source of pride in surviving in a tough economic climate.
“It was a very challenging year, but a year of transition and higher achievement,” said Sal Aranda, outgoing 2011 president. “I had the opportunity to implement new goals to better able to serve our members.”
Aranda also presented incoming 2012 SCV Division President Erika Kauzlarich-Bird.
“Sal has been a wonderful leader,” Kauzlarich-Bird said. “It was amazing having him serve as a leader in the real estate community.”
Kauzlarich-Bird said that although the mortgage meltdown threatened the dream of home ownership, she is optimistic about the upcoming year and believes the real estate industry and community as a whole will persevere.
“It’s a fabulous community that we live in. The (local) market didn’t fall as much as national averages,” she said. “As long as we make it through the next year, we’ll all be fine.”
The Realtors association made donations to six different charities during the year and raised more money than in any other year, Aranda said. The organization did a good job in 2011 and had fun doing it.
“I’m satisfied knowing I gave my very best,” Aranda said. “I was proud to be able to work with such eloquent professionals and colleagues.”
Santa Clarita Councilwoman Laurene Weste installed the incoming 2012 SRAR council members by swearing in Kauzlarich-Bird as president, Bob Khalsa as president-elect, and council members Sal Aranda, Jim Bevis, Sarah Darabi, Phyllis Grekin, Marty Kovacs, Michael Regilio, Kathy Salisbury, Nancy Starczyk, Dean Vincent, Andrew Walter and Dawn Zirbel.
Also in attendance at the installation dinner were members from the main office of the Realtors association located in the San Fernando Valley: Fred Sabine, president, Jim Link, CEO, and Mary Lou Williams, assistant executive vice president.
Before introducing the incoming 2012 president, Aranda presented awards recognizing Dawn Zirbel of First American Home Buyers Protection and Kauzlarich-Bird, broker/owner of Triple D Realty.
Zirbel was awarded Affiliate of the Year and Kauzlarich-Bird was recognized as Member of the Year. Aranda also gave special recognition to Becky Alvarado, SCV division office manager.
On hand to witness the installation of officers and congratulate SRAR for its dedication and hard work in a very difficult market were representatives for the city of Santa Clarita, state Sen. Tony Strickland, R-Moorpark, California Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita, and Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.
